Who We Are
The Jain Society of Waterloo Region (JSOWR) serves families across the Waterloo Region, creating a spiritual anchor for Jains in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, and surrounding communities. As more families make this region their home, our community continues to grow and strengthen.
Founded in 2023, JSOWR emerged from a shared vision to build a vibrant Jain community rooted in spirituality, culture, and togetherness. Our ghar derasar in Kitchener, located at our founding member's residence, has become a cherished space where families gather regularly for darshan, daily rituals, and spiritual worship.
What began as a small group with a big vision has grown into a vibrant, united community ready to build the next chapter of Jain presence in the region.
Our Vision
To establish a spiritual home that preserves our rich Shvetambar and Digambar traditions while nurturing the next generation with deep-rooted Jain Sanskars. Our vision is to preserve tradition, inspire compassion, and unite the Sangh under the eternal principles of Bhagwan Mahavir.
Our Purpose
Throughout the year, our community gathers wherever doors are open — at local centers, rented halls, and temporary spaces that become sacred through our devotion. During Paryushan, we come together for vyakhyan, poojan, pratikraman, and the Mahavir Janm Vanchan Mahotsav, transforming borrowed rooms into places of deep reflection and spiritual joy.
Yet this temporary setup, carried by the dedication of our families, cannot sustain the growing needs of our Sangh or the future we envision for our children. We seek a permanent spiritual home that honors our traditions and strengthens our community for generations to come.
Now, we stand at a defining moment. Together, we can build a permanent derasar and community center that reflects the strength, unity, and faith of our Sangh.
